Keep Your Family Safe From Carbon Monoxide

Just because your furnace is heating your home doesn't mean it is operating safely. A furnace with a cracked heat exchanger can run normally but emit deadly carbon monoxide gas into your home. It is odorless and colorless and may cause flu like symptoms at low levels; nausea, difficulty in breathing and a loss of consciousness at higher levels. And it can even lead to death.
Other sources of carbon monoxide may be air infiltration from a garage or other vehicle area, gas fireplaces, gas stoves, and gas water heaters.
We recommend our ComfortCare Maintenance Plan as your first line of defense. During your heating visit, we utilize a combustion analyzer, a tool which allows us to increase the efficiency of the furnace as well as inspect the heat exchanger. It can tell us when even the smallest cracks begin to appear (most are not visible to the human eye). With regular checks, you greatly reduce your risk of CO poisoning.
As an added level of protection we recommend the NSI 3000 Low Level CO Detector. This unit is much more sensitive than those found in your local home improvement store. With a professional grade sensor, its first visual readout at 5 ppm (parts per million) occurs within 30 seconds (For comparison, store bought CO detectors alarm when 70 ppm or higher register at the unit for 3 ½ hours!). It is battery operated and provides maximum protection for all age groups. We strongly recommend that every home have one of these detectors.
Our techs carry these detectors on their trucks and can install them quickly on-site. Feel free to give us a call at 770.271.7511 if you have any questions. We want to help keep you and your family safe this heating season!
